The Point Opens with Amazing Seafood in Buzzard Point
The restaurants right on the waterfront near Navy Yard and Buzzard Point are an experience. Any occasion is a good occasion to enjoy the river views with a colorful cocktail and a fancy dish. And this spring, there is something new to try: The Point.
The Point comes from the restaurant group behind Georgetown restaurants Tony & Joe’s and Nick’s Riverside Grill so you know they have riverside dining down. The Point has a beautiful atmosphere for both indoor and outdoor dining. Most notably, they have cozy firepits outside overlooking the river. In addition to traditional tables and bar seating, the fire pits are a fun option to enjoy the water views.
First up, The Point offers a variety of beers and wine plus cocktails. We tried the Blackberry Bourbon Basil Smash and the Limoncello Mojito. I especially loved the way the bourbon complimented the blackberry flavor – it is a must-try if you enjoy bourbon. The Limoncello Mojito was light and fresh making a great summer drink for riverside dining.

The menu also offers an extensive selection of apps and a raw bar including oysters, calamari, New England clam chowder, and hush puppies. We tried the jumbo shrimp cocktail, mahi mahi tostadas, and the warm crab cake donuts. Do not miss those crab cake donuts! This fun, unique dish was a perfect combo of sweet and savory. For a lighter option, the tostadas also tasted fresh and offered a nice crunch with the fish and avocado salsa.
The salads are big enough for two to share so it’s a good option as a side dish or part of your apps. We also loved the shrimp cocktail which is simple but nicely plated and fresh.
For entrees, The Point features a variety of land and sea including fish and chips, ravioli, salmon, BBQ shrimp, grilled cauliflower, and more. We tried the scallops and duck burnt ends.
These were some of the best scallops I’ve ever had. They had a crispy outside and perfectly soft inside with a light sauce to match. This is truly a showstopper if you enjoy scallops. If you prefer land meat, don’t miss the duck which featured a nice crunch and paired nicely with the roasted vegetables.
For dessert, we tried the apple pie bites with strawberry ice cream and caramel drizzle. It packs in all the traditional flavors of an apple pie but in a cute little pouch. However, the creamy strawberry ice cream makes this dish extra special. Guests can also order the soft-serve ice cream on its own.
The Point is currently open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. Hours are expected to expand as they ramp up. Parking is available nearby but it is recommended to take the metro (green line – Navy Yard) or rideshare especially during game days. There is a bike rack and Capital Bikeshared right next to the restaurant. Keep up with them on Instagram @thepointdc for the latest hours and dishes.
