12 Places to Keep Happy Hour Going From Home

It didn’t take me very long to figure out how to set up about 8 different video conferencing methods in order to keep up with all of my friends. The first question that usually comes up is “What are you drinking?”

It’s an easy icebreaker to draw attention away from the stress and start to wind down for the evening. Because we are all working hard to support local business as much as we can, here are a few places offering pick up and delivery of your favorite drinks to start your virtual and patio happy hours off right.

McClellan’s Retreat: Dupont Circle

McClellan’s Retreat is a small, rustic whiskey bar with a killer happy hour offering $6 Old Fashioned. While things are closed, you can order drinks by email to pick up Tuesday-Saturday from 5 to 8 pm. Their full menu is available online and includes cocktails, beer, and wine plus some themed days. Plus, follow along on Instagram @mccretreat for bartending videos and specials. All orders must include a bag of popcorn.

Tiki Night Special from McCellan’s Retreat

Port City Brewery: Alexandria

Order your favorite beers from Port City Brewery by noon for same-day delivery or pick up from 3 to 6 pm. The delivery radius is 5 miles from the brewery and requires a $5 delivery fee plus a $47 order minimum.

Capo’s Deli: Shaw

I think I visited Capo’s Deli in Shaw for their amazing Italian subs for about 2 months before I realized it was a speakeasy. Order drinks from The Backroom on Grubhub or Doordash with one of their subs for pick up ($12/cocktail) or delivery ($15/cocktail). Follow them on Instagram @capospeakeasy (look, “speakeasy” is in the name!) for menu updates.

I’ve found cold sandwiches refrigerate well. You might want to order a drink for the later afternoon and save the sub for lunch the next day. They also make good picnic food for when things are back to normal.

El Rey: U Street

El Rey is famous for its mantra “Taco and Tequila.” You can bring their happy hour to your home with a liter of their margaritas ($30 + $5 refills) and other drink specials. Plus, find food specials like nachos and enchiladas. The take out window is open from noon to 10 pm. Follow them on Instagram @elrey_dc for all the updates.

One Eight Distilling: Ivy City

Stock your liquor cabinet with gin, vodka, whiskey, and bourbon from One Eight Distilling. They are offering a free house-made hand sanitizer and 15% off the entire shop. That includes shirts and beanies! Pick up windows vary daily so check the site before you head over.

Supreme Core Cider: Ivy City

Is beer not your thing? Check out Supreme Core Cider who is delivering your favorite ciders (DC only) 7 days a week from 4 to 7 pm if you order by 3 pm. You can also pick up cider Friday to Sunday from 2 to 6 pm. Don’t miss the Cherry Bloom to bring a little spring to your at-home happy hour.

Colada Shop: 14th Street

Colada Shop is an adorable Cuban coffee shop with a rooftop that offers cocktails in the evening. Pick up cocktails to go like mojitos and pina coladas plus beer and bottles of wine. All alcohol orders must include at least 1 food item.

DC Brau: Fort Lincoln

DC Brau is one of my go-to beers at restaurants across the city. They recently released a statement thanking everyone for their support but would prefer if people picked up their favorite local beer from the grocery store. They have limited pick up times at the brewery but feel it would be safer if everyone could consolidate their beer runs. Look out for their cans in grocery stores plus their new seltzer: Full Transparency. Keep up with them on Instagram @dcbrau for the latest.

Right Property Brewery: Brookland and Shaw

Pick up your favorite beers from Right Property Brewery Friday-Saturday (Brookland) or Monday-Wednesday (Shaw). Delivery is also available from Tuesday to Friday from 12 to 3 pm. $25 minimum and must be within a 5-mile radius. The Shaw location is also offering their full menu including burgers, pretzel bread, tacos, and more.

Busboys and Poets

14th Street, K Street, Brookland, Hyattsville, Anacostia, Takoma, Arlington

Order your favorite drinks from Busboys and Poets like DC Tap Water and Langston Cooler plus an entree. Look out for creative lunch and dinner boxes at each location for pick up or delivery on GrubHub. Follow them on Instagram @busboysandpoets for the latest news. They are also doing Instagram Live stories for kids and poetry slams.

Shaw’s Tavern: Shaw

Shaw’s Tavern is offering beer, wine, and cocktails to go along with some of their most loved food items. Plus, on Saturday and Sunday, you can take out brunch items and mimosas.

Tico: 14th Street

Tico has all the tacos and margaritas you need for a perfect night in. They are also offering large, family-style meals for a crowd. Find them on 14th Street for pick up or order on most delivery apps. Keep up with them on Instagram @tico_dc for the menu and a cute video of the marg stand.
