Winter Restaurant Week: Grillfish
Happy Winter Restaurant Week Day Trippers! This year we were feeling like fish, so we headed to Grillfish in Dupont. Grillfish is part of EatWell DC which includes 4 additional restaurants: Commissary, The Heights, Logan Tavern, and The Pig. EatWell DC has a focus on sustainability and using locally grown food. Living in a city, we appreciate when businesses make an effort to make the world a little greener. EatWell DC even has a special farm in Charles County, Maryland where they grow a lot of the food.
We visited Grillfish for lunch on a rainy afternoon. The restaurant has a rustic vibe with wooden tables and walls. Although it seems small with low lighting, we thought it gave the restaurant a very cozy feel. The Restaurant Week deal was for a three-course meal including a full sized appetizer/salad, entree, and dessert each. We started our meals with the Portabellas and Grilled Shrimp Scampi. The Portabellas came on a little plate with feta, sundried tomatoes, and garlic. Both were delicious and easily shareable.
Next, we both ordered the Grillfish Crab Cake Melt – one of our favorite ways to enjoy crab. The melt was a little different than other crab cake sandwiches as it comes with a slice of cheddar cheese on top. Though it almost looked like a burger, the crab cake was cooked perfectly and let’s face it – cheese makes everything better. Generally, we aren’t big fans of french fries but the fries that came with the sandwich were fresh and perfectly crispy. You can check out the full menu including fish and chips, buffalo shrimp, and fish tacos on the website.
On to dessert – our favorite part! We tried the Brownie Sundae with Caramel Pecan Sauce and the Chocolate Fudge Cake. The Brownie Sundae was beautifully plated in a tall dish. The brownie was more a garnish for the huge pile of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. The Chocolate Fudge Cake was served with vanilla ice cream, Black Russian hot fudge sauce, and almonds. The Black Russian hot fudge sauce had an extra kick, which we thought made this dish extra delicious. If you’re not a chocolate fan, Grillfish also has desserts like a banana split, key lime pie, and caramel cheesecake brûlée. These desserts are amazing so save room! Ours were almost too big to finish without a friend!
All of the Eat Well DC restaurant are running Restaurant Week all month long so you can enjoy the deals until January 31. Grillfish is a little bit of a hike from the metro, but they have $5 parking (with validation) right behind the restaurant. Online ordering for takeout is also available from their website. Be sure to check them out!
