Uptown Market: Dining, Coffee, and a Full Market
Some of the best neighborhood dining spots are the places that provide many options in an effortless way. Uptown Market in Van Ness does exactly that. Not only does Uptown Market provide cute patio dining for dinner, drinks, or brunch, but they also have a full market with a coffee bar.
With a lot of DC reopening patio dining for spring, Uptown Market recently launched a new tapas-style dinner menu. The restaurant offers a variety of hot and cold tapas, two paella options with land or sea meat, sharable salads, and the cutest mini pizzas.
The tapas are a good size to share so it’s easy to order a few for your whole group to try. However, one can’t miss dish is the mini individual pizzas for $5. Order a mix of meat and veggie-friendly options to enjoy with Spanish wine, sangria, or frozen margaritas. My husband and I tried the Fessenden with Italian sausage and the Porter with house-made cheese sauce. I’d order both again but the Porter blew us away with its smooth blend of goat, gouda, and ricotta cheese.
Small Plates to Share
If you need a healthy side to go with your mini pizzas, I’d recommend the gazpacho or one of the large salads. I loved the pear and walnut salad with goat cheese. It was big enough to share and added a lighter option to our meal. The fresh, cold soup also made me feel like warm weather is finally just around the corner.
If you are looking for a hearty dinner option, choose from a wide selection of hot tapas. Uptown Market’s small plates are big enough to share so you can try a bunch. We tried the Pintxo Moreno (lamb skewers) and the Choricllos Parrilerros (mini chorizo links). I loved that these small plates feel like a good-sized portion but light enough to complement a casual evening of drinks on the patio. The menu also includes seafood and veggie tapas so you can make a full meal out of just hot tapas.
Next to the restaurant, you’ll also find the Uptown Market grocery market where you can shop meat, cheese, seafood, pantry items, and produce. You can also browse a variety of prepared food if you need something quick to make for dinner. They offer curbside pick-up and delivery options plus in-store shopping with limited guests allowed inside. The market is open daily from 10 am to 7 pm (6 pm on Sundays).
Uptown Market is a short walk from the Van Nest metro stop (red). It the perfect grocery or coffee option if you live in the neighborhood or need a meal after sightseeing. Nearby stops include the embassies, Rock Creek Park, and Hillwood Estate. Uptown Market is open for dinner daily and brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
