Booeymonger, A Unique Delicatessen

Booeymonger in Georgetown

We stumbled across Booeymonger while perusing TripAdvisor for a tasty but inexpensive dinner option in Georgetown. We read that Booeymonger is a sandwich shop tucked away from the busy streets of Georgetown but still close to the main shops.  So after getting some delicious cupcakes from Sprinkles, we headed down the street to find the sandwich shop on the corner of Prospect and Potomac.

Turkey Club
Turkey Club

When we arrived, we noticed it perfectly blended with the beautiful, older residential buildings. Since it is a little off the beaten path, it gives visitors a more local feel with its rustic and cozy vibe. This is Booeymonger’s original location – they set up shop in Georgetown over 35 years ago! The restaurant has lots of made-to-order hot and cold sandwiches in addition to many salads, burgers, hot wings,  desserts, and breakfast plates.  You can also build your own sandwich if you don’t see one you like.  There are also many unique side options including macaroni salad, hummus, cottage cheese, and sesame noodles all to pair with your perfect meal. We had no problem finding a seat Sunday night but we saw some online reviews that said it can get crowded during the lunch rush.

Patty Hearst
Patty Hearst

For this visit we tried the Turkey Club and the Patty Hearst. The Turkey Club was made with familiar ingredients – turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo – but everything was fresh and delicious. They didn’t skimp on anything! We found the club to be very filling and delicious. As for the Patty Hearst, it was loaded with turkey, bacon, melted provolone cheese, and Russian dressing and was served on a French baguette.  While similar to the club, the dressing made the Patty Hearst stand out on its own. Served warm, this sandwich was as much delicious and flavorful as it was fun.

At this particular location, we noticed they have several specials including $5 pitchers Monday to Thursday.  Clearly, this is a top notch happy hour spot!  Booeymonger has four locations: Georgetown, Ballston, Bethesda, and Friendship Heights. They are open every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are also available for catering.
