Bolt Burgers – Serving Up Customized Burgers

Bolt Burgers: Serving Up Customized Burgers

Update 2020: Bolt Burger closed permanently in March due to COVID-19.

It seems like the burger market has been shifting from run of the mill beef patties with lettuce, tomato, and onions to a more customized experience. Last weekend, we stumbled across a new burger restaurant while looking for somewhere to grab lunch before attending the Science and Engineering Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  We were so excited to see heart healthy, vegetarian, and low carb options that went well beyond the common lettuce wrap option.

Bolt Burgers has sleek, red decor which gives it more of an upscale atmosphere. Food is ordered at the counter or kiosks around the restaurant, but waiters bring your food directly to your table. When you order, you choose your patty as the baseline for your delicious burger experience. Bolt Burgers offers Angus beef, ground turkey, marinated chicken breast, and vegetarian black bean burger. Then you can add spice, choice of several cheeses, bacon, sauces, and veggies. Bolt Burgers also has a few signature burgers to choose from for those who do not want to customize.

Our favorite way to customize our burger is the burger bowl. The burger bowl is one of the custom or signature burgers in salad form with some dressing on the side. We think this is a great way to shake things up from the traditional lettuce wrap you find at most burger places. The burger bowl was very hardy and it filled us up for a great afternoon in DC. Another great feature is, in addition to traditional fries or onion rings, you can choose green beans as a side. Spices and sauces are not only limited to the burgers – you can also add them to any of the sides. For those who do not want a burger patty, Bolt Burgers also offers full and side salads.

If you are looking for something sweet, Bolt Burgers has a number of shakes including strawberry cream, raspberry banana, mango passion, and peach punch as well as desserts including a chocolate brownie, chocolate chip cookie, and New York Style Cheesecake. We love that a simple burger restaurant can offer so many options to fit a variety of dietary needs. You can check out the full menu online.

You can find Bolt Burgers in Washington, DC about two blocks away from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. For those in NOVA, an Arlington location is coming this summer! Check out Bolt Burgers on Twitter (@BoltBurgers) for all the latest updates!
